Baby at 1 months

The first month of a newborn’s life is filled with important changes that at first glance remain invisible to others. The baby not only begins to get used to life outside its mother’s womb. His blood circulation is significantly adjusted, his body’s defense systems are activated and his intestines “get acquainted” with food that was previously unknown.

Medical examinations of a baby at 1 month

In the days after discharge, the mother and newborn should be visited by a pediatrician. During this visit, the doctor will introduce parents to the most important things they need to know about baby care. He will examine it thoroughly.

If you have any questions at this stage, do not hesitate to ask the pediatrician during the first visit.

At the end of the examination, he will set the next date for the examination, during which he will check all the reflexes of the child and whether he is developing according to the norms for a baby at 1 month. It will follow the healing of the umbilical wound, which usually heals at the end of the second week.

Norms for height and weight

Most children in the first month of life become 3 cm taller and 600-800 grams heavier. These are indicative parameters, deviations are possible and they are not a cause for concern.

Vision in a 1-month-old baby

In the first month of life, the newborn sees objects located 20-30 cm from his face. Everything else, whether closer or farther away, seems blurry.

By the end of the fourth week, the child will be able to focus on the face and even smile.

Interesting fact: the first color that the baby will begin to distinguish is red.

During the first days when the child is at home, it is possible to decide that he has a hearing problem. He may not react immediately to all the sounds around him. You should not worry unnecessarily. In the first days after birth, the baby really does not hear well. However, following the development of his hearing in the coming months, you will notice that he is constantly improving.

The calmness of the child in the first weeks is related to the fact that during the nine months in the womb he is accustomed to the background noise and considers it completely normal. Ie it does not provoke his anxiety.

The newborn will usually react more sharply to extremely loud and unexpected sounds.

If you want to test your child’s hearing in the first month, choose a nice ringing toy. Bring it closer to one or the other ear of the child. Call her. The child’s response should be to look for the source of the sound and turn your head to it.

In the first month of life, most babies wake up just to eat again. The total duration of sleep is about 18 hours a day.

It is advisable to put the child to sleep during the first weeks for safety reasons. This reduces the risk of choking and vomiting during sleep.

Some children sleep restlessly because they feel pain in the abdomen, others wake up suddenly, waving their arms in the air.

To ensure maximum comfort of the child during sleep, it is recommended to change diapers just before bedtime. Then, when you put the baby to sleep, put your hands to his body.

Take care of the optimal temperature in the home – it should be neither hot nor cold. You can consult a pediatrician on this issue to adjust to the season. During the first months of a baby’s life, there is a risk of overheating or overcooling.

From time to time put the child to sleep on his stomach. In such cases, however, never leave him alone. Always keep an eye on him.

Feeding a baby at 1 month

Newborns are breastfed frequently. The first few weeks are very important for adjusting your diet in the long run. Therefore, we advise you not to limit the child’s nutrition. Once it is full, you need to keep it upright for a while – this is how the air taken in during breastfeeding will come out. Otherwise, the baby may feel uncomfortable and nervous. These are the usual signs of ingested air along with breast milk / formula.

Sometimes it may seem to you that the child has returned all the food. In all likelihood, however, you have 1-2 tablespoons of milk mixed with saliva and gastric juices.

It is normal for a 1-month-old baby to return some of the food he has eaten. This should not worry you. Exceptions are cases in which the vomit has a brown or green color, the process is accompanied by a cough or the food comes out in the form of a fountain. Be sure to consult a pediatrician.

Newborn care

During the first month, many babies suffer from discomfort caused by colic. You can alleviate the condition by regularly doing a light massage of the abdomen in a clockwise direction or by placing the baby lying on your abdomen. In this way you naturally warm his body and reduce the pain.

If these tests do not work for your baby, your doctor will prescribe special medicines.

You can bathe the child on the day of his return home. Use running water for this purpose. Until the pimple falls, it is advisable not to immerse the baby in a bathtub or other bathtub.

It is advisable to use only water. Bathing gives babies pleasure and psychological comfort, it provides them with useful physical activity, develops tactile, communicative and emotional habits, and also stimulates the appetite.

In addition, bathing is a time-tested procedure for hardening and prevention against colds.

At the end of the month

Your baby’s first month is coming to an end and he can already do so many things:

– to make sounds, the so-called shouting;

– to raise his head, lying on his stomach;

– to recognize his mother’s voice, her scent and this makes him react;

– to react to sound stimuli – for example to a bell;

– to smile;

– to move chaotically hands that are still clenched into fists;

– to monitor for a short period of time a large object that moves in front of his eyes at a distance of 20-30 cm;

– to distinguish colors – red, yellow, black and white;

– Crying is the main means of communication with the world. Through it, the child informs that he is hungry, that he feels discomfort – his stomach hurts, the diaper is full, he is looking for attention, etc. When a child grumbles, it’s also a way of saying he needs your attention.

It is good to get used to the idea that all children develop at their own pace. Use the first days of your baby’s life to learn to understand each other and be as committed to him as possible. The emotional connection between a child and a mother is extremely important and the best stimulus for development.
