5 gestational week
5 gestational week corresponds to the 2nd month of pregnancy and falls in the first trimester. This week of pregnancy according to obstetric calculations represents the third week from the time of conception and the beginning of the second month of pregnancy. What does the pregnant woman feel and how is the fetus developing at this stage? The body of the expectant mother is gradually readjusting, and the fetus is growing.
The size of the embryo in the 5th gestational week
At the moment, the embryo resembles a tadpole. The blastocyst, which has tightly fused into the uterine wall, continues to grow. In turn, the ovaries are still relentlessly producing the hormone progesterone, which is necessary to maintain pregnancy. The uterus gradually thickens.
Curiously, it is during this week that the nostrils and eyes of the fetus are formed. So far they are poorly developed, but they respond to light.
In the fifth week, the development of the heart and other important organs begins.
The development of the embryo
It is no longer necessary to destroy the cells around the uterine tissues for the fetus to feed. It can obtain the necessary substances, including oxygen, from the mother’s blood.
The primary circulation between the uterus and the placenta is formed.
The mother’s hormonal system has readjusted so as not to reject the new organism. As a result, the immune system weakens. This is a critical period during which you need to be especially careful.
The future child continues to develop and grow in size. On his body is already distinguishable where the back and where the abdomen. In parallel, the formation of the skeletal base begins.
The so-called intestinal tube is also forming, which will later transform into the future umbilical cord. That’s not all – the basis of the future bones and muscles, blood vessels, etc. are actively developing.
The neural tube is also formed, which is subsequently transformed into the brain – spinal and cephalic. The primary organs will in turn transform into lungs, liver, kidneys, etc.
Another curious point is that it is during this 5th gestational week that the boys’ testes begin to form and almost immediately begin to produce testosterone. If this does not happen, the sex of the child will be female.
In just a week, the embryo grows by half a centimeter. At the end of the fifth week it is 2 mm long.
Signs of pregnancy in the fifth gestational week
It is now almost certain that you are aware of your new condition. There will be no menstruation for the next few months. In medical parlance, it is amenorrhea.
Human chorionic gonadotropin (hGH) is produced in such quantity that its detection in the urine does not present much difficulty. If you haven’t seen a doctor yet, it’s time you did.
In some cases, an ultrasound scan (ultrasound) may be ordered when there is a risk of ectopic pregnancy.
What does a pregnant woman feel during the fifth gestational week?
The symptoms that have manifested so far are now being experienced more frequently. Your mammary glands have enlarged, there may be a change in your taste preferences and you may feel nauseous. Some women mention “heaviness low down in the abdomen”.
Usual symptoms are drowsiness, lethargy, rapid fatigue.
It is not extremely easy to get irritated by the slightest thing.
There should be no menstruation at this stage of pregnancy. The condition is known as physiological amenorrhea. If there is discharge, it is transparent.
In case of blood spotting, it is recommended to consult a doctor immediately. You should know that any discharge accompanied by an unpleasant sensation in the genital area is a sign that something is wrong.
The menu of a pregnant woman in the fifth gestational week
As already mentioned, the embryo already has internal organs. It needs vitamins, and so do you. Therefore, the menu should be balanced and rich in nutrients.
Particularly important are the B vitamins – the chemical balance in the body of the fetus depends on them.
The menu of a pregnant woman should contain various porridges, vegetable oils, vegetables and fruits in orange color, foods rich in magnesium and iodine.
Strive to consume enough foods containing vitamin C. These are key for the immune system and fighting infections.
Avoid high calorie foods and by all means do not go on a weight loss diet!
Avoid:
Active sports
Lifting heavy objects
Move on to the 4th gestational week or the 6th gestational week
