25 gestational week
25 gestational week corresponds to the 6th month of pregnancy and falls in the second trimester. After this gestational week, the risk of miscarriage seriously decreases. It can be said that this period is psychologically significant for pregnant women. The possibility that the child will survive if born at this stage remains valid.
The pregnant woman continues to gain weight. Up to delivery, a maximum of 5 kg more is “allowed” to be gained. During this week, the children have already taken the correct position in the uterus – upside down. If not, it will happen very soon.
Fetal size and development in the 25th gestational week
- Height – 34.6 cm.
- Weight – 660 g.
- Head circumference – 23.1 cm.
- Abdominal circumference – 21.2 cm.
The weight of the child is now 660 grams, and its length reaches 34 cm. Head circumference has increased to 23.1 mm and abdominal circumference to 21.2 mm. The accumulation of subcutaneous fat continues and the child’s body becomes softer and rounder. His individual facial features are now formed. The ears are small, the cartilages are yet to strengthen. At this stage of gestation, the fetus is defined as a donor.
If so far the liver and spleen were mainly involved in blood formation, now the bone marrow is also involved. The bones become denser and calcium accumulates in them. To be healthy, however, they must also be elastic. For this, certain organic compounds are needed.
Surfactant continues to accumulate in the child’s lungs. It is, as you already know, necessary for full breathing. Usually premature children need additional costly therapy and artificial ventilation of the lungs in order for this organ to develop further.
During the 25th gestational week, the child’s heart beats at 150 beats per minute. The placenta is now 26.22 mm thick. It is gradually starting to go down.
The good news is that the child’s major systems and organs are already formed. It continues to strengthen and grow.
What does a pregnant woman feel during the twenty-fifth gestational week?
The belly continues to grow and the weight increases. There is no way that a pregnant woman does not notice this when she has a scale at home. The bottom of the uterus has already risen 25 cm. Increasingly, pain in the lower back is felt.
After long walks or performing household chores, you may feel fatigue in the legs. It is normal. They are subjected to extra strain.
If you have symptoms of varicose veins, you may need to wear compression stockings. We recommend resting more frequently with your legs slightly elevated on a pillow.
Foot baths bring slight relief, as does the application of special creams.
Exertion is dangerous as it affects the blood vessels. In parallel with varicose veins, you may face hemorrhoids or varicose veins of the external genital organs.
With frequent cases of constipation, these problems are compounded.
To lower the viscosity of blood, you can consume fish oil. It prevents the formation of blood clots. Vitamin C helps to strengthen the walls of blood vessels. Consume enough water to prevent constipation. Beets and plums also help in this case.
At this stage of pregnancy, every movement of the baby can not only be perceived as a sensation, but also visually noticeable. His turns and change of postures are visualized as “ripples” on the surface of the abdomen.
Continue to occasionally count the child’s movements within an hour. This indicator is important for the diagnosis of his condition. During daylight hours he should make no less than 10 movements.
Increased activity may be a sign of a problem. See a doctor immediately.
Continue to monitor the characteristics of the vaginal discharge. They are an indicator of the mother’s condition and may alert to a risk to the baby’s health. Even the smallest signs of candidiasis speak of a weakened immune system. Sometimes this problem can be solved by a few adjustments in the menu of a pregnant woman.
Ideal for this purpose are yogurt products. They contain lactobacilli, which help to restore balance in the vagina.
The appearance of blood in the vaginal discharge is a serious symptom. Consult a doctor immediately, especially if accompanied by abdominal pain.
The menu of a pregnant woman in the 25th gestational week
For some time, it is normal not to carry heavy bags. In addition, it is desirable to continue to choose food products carefully. Give preference to natural foods and avoid GMO products. Sauces with thickeners and taste stabilizers are also not recommended. Look for their alternatives.
Exclude fizzy drinks from the menu. Instead, consume compotes made from fresh or dried fruit. Dried fruit compote has a mild laxative effect, did you know that?
What is seen on ultrasound?
A child’s brain continues to develop and grow. The cerebral cortex is already forming. In the picture you can see that the cerebellum is divided into two halves and a spot is noticeable between them – the corpus callosum. The bone marrow is almost completely formed. Now it is responsible for blood formation in the child’s body. During an ultrasound, it can be noticed which hand the child uses most often. So you can find out right away whether he is right-handed or left-handed.
The sex organs already take their respective place. In boys, the testicles are going down, and in girls, the vagina is taking shape. In a photo you can clearly see even the baby’s ribs. Now they are quite thin. The bones and muscles continue to strengthen.
